Information About the City of Pleasant Grove

With a population of about 10,000, the city of Pleasant Grove, located in western Jefferson County offers the best “small town” quality of life. But we are located within 25 minutes of Alabama’s largest metropolitan area.  Pleasant Grove, the Good Neighbor City  is the best place to call home.

 City Hall and Municipal Information

We have an elected mayor and city council members. City Hall is located at 501 Park Road. The phone number for City Hall is (205) 744-1724.

 City Council meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Monday’s  each month at 7:00 P.M.

Pleasant Grove Library is located at City Hall on the ground floor. The library is a member of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:30 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. The library is open on Saturday’s from 8:30 A.M.- 12:30 P.M. The phone number is 744-1731.

Pleasant Grove offers a variety of park and recreational opportunities.

Pleasant Grove Public Works is in charge of the parks, animal control, athletic complex and fields, etc.  The phone number for Public Works is 744-1726.

Pleasant Grove Park has a play area for children, covered picnic tables, plenty of shade trees and a creek. It is located across from City Hall.

Our park has 2 pavilions available for rental.

Our Community Center is available for rental and can be used for a wide variety of activities. It is located next to City Hall.

Pleasant Grove supports its youth sports programs for boys and girls. We have youth baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, football, and cheerleading.  There is also a Church Softball League.

Pleasant Grove Athletic Complex has 4 baseball fields, 4 softball fields, 2 soccer fields, 2 football fields, 6 tennis courts and a walking track.

Pleasant Grove Beautification Board is active in the community. They sponsor a variety of events throughout the year.

The Welcome signs are landscaped and decorated.

Flags are displayed on patriotic holidays.

The Dogwood Award is given in the springtime.

Yard of the Month is awarded monthly during April, May, June and July.

City Hall is decorated in the fall and at Christmas

The Happy Holidays Award is given in December for the houses and yards that are decorated.

During December, a lighting ceremony is held on the steps of City Hall. Supper with Santa and pictures are available. The Christmas Parade is held the 1st Saturday in December. It begins at Jack’s Restaurant and ends at Pleasant Grove 1st Baptist Church.

Pleasant Grove Elementary School and Pleasant Grove High School are operated by the Jefferson County Board of Education.

Within the city limits of Pleasant Grove are a number of small businesses. We have banks, barber and beauty shops, cemeteries, cleaners, doctors and dentists offices, florists, grocery store, hardware store, insurance companies, nursing homes, pharmacies, post office, realty companies, restaurants, service stations, storage facilities, veterinary clinic and plenty of churches!

Within the metropolitan area of Birmingham and Jefferson County, we have a variety of attractions, airport, art galleries, cinemas, colleges, convention center, gardens, golf trails, hotels, medical centers, museums, parks, performing arts, shopping, sports of all kinds, restaurants, a water & amusement park called Alabama Adventure, and a zoo.

In our diverse metropolitan region of the state, we are within a short drive to nearby lakes and rivers, waterfalls, caverns and tree topped mountains. The blooming flowers and trees in the spring as well as the colors of the autumn leaves are beautiful to behold. The area offers lots of outdoor activities, art, historic, and cultural activities and attractions.  Less than 2 hours away is Talladega Speedway and Barber Motorsports Park to the east, Chilton County peaches to the south, and the Mercedes plant at Vance to the west.
